How I Transitioned to a Part-Time Creator Making Five Figures Monthly
Written on
Chapter 1: The Shift in Perspective
During a quiet reading session on a Sunday, I stumbled upon a significant realization that perfectly encapsulated my life’s direction:
"Forget the promotion, focus on creating online."
This phrase has become my motto for The Part-Time Creator Club.
In the past, I believed my purpose was to ascend the corporate ladder, a notion I adopted simply because it was a common belief. When I began my graduate job in 2016, I set my sights on climbing to the top as swiftly as possible, aspiring to be a leader and a top decision-maker. However, my aspirations have undergone a remarkable transformation since then.
Section 1.1: The Reality of Management
I had the opportunity to manage a team once, and I found it to be a dreadful experience. It dawned on me that I had long admired something I had never actually experienced. The reality was far from the ideal; it was overwhelming and, to my surprise, not enjoyable at all. While the thought of earning a substantial income was appealing, the day-to-day responsibilities felt burdensome.
Yet, I still craved financial stability without the associated stress and pressure of traditional management roles. Initially, I kept these feelings to myself, fearing they would label me as just another millennial struggling to navigate the workforce. However, I began to realize that my situation was more nuanced.
Subsection 1.1.1: Choosing Your Path
Ultimately, it’s your choice how to lead your life. We often hear there are only two paths:
- Work a 9-to-5, endure dissatisfaction, take two vacations annually, retire, and then enjoy life.
- Become an entrepreneur, work from exotic locations, and live your dream.
I found myself somewhere in between. I didn’t despise my 9-to-5; in fact, I enjoyed it. It offered learning opportunities and a sense of security, even amid constant restructuring. However, there was a persistent yearning to explore my potential through online creation.
Section 1.2: Embracing Honesty
When contemplating my desire for increased income, I identified two avenues:
- Work tirelessly for a promotion, possibly gaining a small pay raise but at the cost of increased stress and reduced leisure time with my pets.
- Dedicate myself to online creation. Though progress would be slow, I believed in the potential of this path.
Three Years Later
I chose to forgo the promotion, steering clear of discussions about climbing the corporate ladder. Although applying for a senior role might have led to an interview, I remembered how managing had stressed me out. I preferred to engage in online creation, and by 2023, I had generated $100,000 through my digital endeavors after three years of perseverance.
So, What About You?
Perhaps you are still inclined to ascend the corporate ranks, and that’s perfectly fine. However, if you’ve been contemplating a different approach—one that involves earning more without the stress—there is an alternative. You can indeed skip the promotion and focus on creating online.
Sure, the journey may be slow and frustrating at times, but the rewards can be astonishing if you remain committed. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.
