The aspiration to be productive around the clock and accomplish in two months what others take years to achieve is enticing. Imagine consistently working and genuinely enjoying it. Envision realizing your objectives swiftly without frequent distractions.

But what stands in the way? Procrastination, often viewed as the adversary. However, I see it differently. Instead of the primary issue, I consider procrastination a mere symptom.

What is it a symptom of?

Procrastination often stems from a lack of enthusiasm for one’s tasks. For instance, when I attempted to study, I would quickly find myself lost in Instagram instead. The reason? I wasn’t passionate about studying; it felt obligatory rather than enjoyable.

Reflect on your own experiences with procrastination, and you might discover that the underlying cause was a distaste for the task at hand.

What did I learn from this?

Productivity hacks alone won’t resolve the issue; they merely streamline enjoyable work. Techniques like the Pomodoro Method might help, but they won’t address the core problem.

Instead, I focused on making my work enjoyable. I aimed to transform my tasks into something I looked forward to, as Ali Abdaal—an influential figure in productivity—suggests, “All work is creative work,” including studying.

Why does this matter?

If we view our tasks as creative endeavors, we can reclaim control over how we approach them, even when the end goal—like achieving good grades—remains the same for many.

Chapter 2: Cultivating Interest in Work

How did I inject fun into my work?

Firstly, I actively developed an interest in it. Yes, I CREATED interest.

Connecting Interests to Tasks

If your passions aren’t part of your work, create a genuine interest in your tasks. It may sound daunting, but the strategy is yours to define.

For example, I wasn’t fond of biology, but I had a passion for weapons, muscles, and cars. Though seemingly unrelated, I identified a common thread: understanding how to heal or strengthen the body after an accident became a motivating factor for studying human biology.

Making Daily Tasks Enjoyable

While the ultimate goal might be appealing, the journey can often feel tedious. To make daily tasks more enjoyable, consider the following tips:

  • Collaborate with friends while studying or working. Sharing laughs and breaks can lighten the mood and enhance motivation.
  • Employ productivity techniques for efficiency. Resources like "Atomic Habits" by James Clear can introduce effective habits that help you tackle challenging days.
  • Balance work with leisure activities. Going all-in can lead to burnout. It’s essential to allow yourself downtime—play video games, enjoy nature, or take relaxing baths.

Sleep Well

“Better sleep, better life” is a mantra worth embracing. Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night to feel rejuvenated and focused.

Reward Yourself

I used to believe I needed to achieve significant milestones before treating myself, which led to a lonely existence. Instead, celebrate small victories with meaningful rewards—whether it's a hot bath, dining out, or buying something nice for yourself.

By acknowledging progress, you’ll enhance both your work and overall quality of life.
