Future Apple Products: My Wish List for Enhancements

Written on

Chapter 1: Introduction to My Wish List

As a fan of Apple technology, I appreciate my devices, yet I see potential for enhancements.

And yes, I am aware I started off with a triple-negative.

Throughout my daily interactions with Apple's products, I've contemplated what improvements could be made in upcoming versions. With some devices likely receiving updates soon, I thought it would be worthwhile to create my "wish list."

It's important to note that my suggestions are not influenced by rumors or leaks; I prefer to wait for official announcements from Apple. Thus, some items on my list may align with rumored features, while others might not be on anyone's radar yet, and I can only speculate how my suggestions compare to ongoing discussions.

I will categorize my wishes by device, focusing specifically on those I have personally used. Therefore, if I skip mentioning your favorite Apple product—like the HomePod or AirPods Max—it's simply because I lack sufficient experience with them to suggest improvements. Let's get started!

Chapter 2: My iPad Wishlist

Over the past year, I've tested various iPads, from the standard model to the Air and both sizes of the Pro. Ultimately, I opted for the iPad mini, which I found to be the most suitable for my needs.

One of the main reasons I chose the mini was its bezels, which provide a better grip while using the device. However, I would love to see the iPad mini adopt the modern design language of the Air and Pro models.

This particular change is rumored, and if it materializes, it might persuade me to upgrade to the next generation of the iPad mini. Additionally, I would appreciate a version of the Magic Keyboard compatible with both the iPad mini and the basic iPad, as its typing experience surpasses that of the Smart Keyboard Folio or other options available for these budget tablets.

My primary wish for the iPad is for Apple to transition all iPad models to USB-C charging. While I'm not opposed to Lightning, I believe that maintaining the mini and basic iPad with this outdated connector will become limiting over time. Accessory manufacturers will have to create multiple versions for different connections or omit one, and it’s likely they will favor USB-C, which can also be used with MacBooks and other devices.

The first video discusses desired features and changes for iOS 14, providing insight into what users hope to see in Apple's upcoming updates.

Chapter 3: iPhone Improvements

In my view, the iPad mini is nearly flawless. The only thing it could use is a larger battery, but I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Well… I might consider a folding iPhone, but that’s likely to happen eventually, so it’s not on my current wish list.

My top request for the iPhone 13 mini is that Apple continues to produce it. Despite the 12 mini's lackluster sales, I hope they keep the small phone option alive. I want it to match the iPhone 13 in performance and features, without being left behind like the SE model, particularly regarding camera quality. Apple, I promise to purchase every mini as long as its camera performs on par with the latest models.

Also, could the iPhone 13 mini have a matte finish similar to the 12 Pro? The glass back of the 12 mini attracts fingerprints, which is not ideal for MagSafe accessories.

Speaking of MagSafe, I’ve previously noted that it's one of my favorite features of the iPhone 12 series, and I hope Apple expands its use. Currently, we have cases, wallets, and car mounts, with rumors of a battery pack. However, I believe there’s still a lot of creative potential for MagSafe, and I look forward to seeing what Apple does next.

The second video explores expectations and wishlist items for iOS 17, highlighting features users want to see in the next iteration.

Chapter 4: Software Updates

With iPhones and iPads in mind, let's discuss software.

iOS 14 has been my favorite version so far, thanks to features like the app library, but I believe it can be further refined.

For instance, the app library could benefit from more customization options. I appreciate Apple’s organizational categories, but they seem to change unpredictably, making it hard to locate my apps. I would love the ability to create personalized folders in the app library.

iOS could also improve its multitasking capabilities. While this wouldn't apply to my 12 mini, it would be advantageous for those using larger models like the 12 Pro Max, where the option for split-screen functionality would be beneficial.

On the iPadOS front, my biggest desire is for the app library to be included. I don’t understand why it was excluded from iPadOS 14; I would prefer this organized view over cluttered apps scattered across my home screen.

Moreover, with the introduction of M1 MacBooks, I envision a future where iPads can run macOS or at least utilize macOS applications within iPadOS. Given that Apple has just started exploring this path, I’m eager to see what lies ahead.

Chapter 5: The MacBook's Future

Honestly, the M1 MacBook has exceeded my expectations for the MacBook lineup. Although I haven't used many Macs previously, my experience with the Intel Core i3 MacBook Air from 2020 highlighted several areas for improvement, and the M1 has addressed them all. It offers faster speeds, enhanced processing power, and crucially, operates quietly without heating issues.

However, we're looking ahead, and despite my satisfaction with my M1 MacBook Air, I have a few design suggestions for future iterations.

While the MacBook Air’s design has proven effective, it could benefit from modernization. Thinner bezels are a must; compared to competitors like Dell's XPS and Surface Laptop 3, the MacBook’s bezels appear outdated. Additionally, with iPad apps now running on Macs, a touchscreen would be an essential feature to fully leverage these capabilities. I would also welcome Apple Pencil compatibility.

Finally, I hope for more diverse form factors in the Mac lineup, perhaps blending with the iPad range. A Mac with a detachable keyboard or a device that can switch between macOS and iPadOS would be exciting. Naturally, if Apple pursues this, I expect them to add their signature touch.

Chapter 6: Peripherals Enhancements

Now, let's turn our attention to peripherals.

Starting with the iPad, I believe two devices deserve an upgrade: the Magic Keyboard case and the Apple Pencil.

While I would love a Magic Keyboard for the next iPad mini, there are specific changes I hope for in the next version of the iPad's Magic Keyboard case. First, I wish for improved materials. While the keyboard is excellent, the rubbery material around the keys collects dust easily and feels vulnerable to damage. I hope Apple considers a more durable feel, similar to Microsoft’s Alcantara keyboards for Surface products.

Secondly, I would like to see a Touch ID button integrated into the Magic Keyboard. This would be particularly useful for those using it with the iPad Air, where reaching for the power button for fingerprint authentication feels cumbersome.

As for the Apple Pencil, I would love to see it equipped with an eraser. While the double-tap feature on the Pencil 2 allows users to access the eraser, I find the Surface Go 2's design—where you can simply flip the pen to erase—much more intuitive. This change would not only streamline the user experience but also free up the double-tap function for other uses.

Next, let's discuss the AirPods. I adore both AirPods and AirPods Pro, and I don’t have many complaints about the former. However, I believe the Pro model could benefit from improved ear tips, as I struggle to find a comfortable fit with the current options. Apple should explore foam tips or alternative materials to enhance comfort and stability.

Although I haven't experienced the AirPods Max, I do wish for a more affordable version. If the price point were lower, I would be more inclined to try them out.

Finally, regarding the Apple Watch, my main wish is for improved battery life. It would be fantastic if it could last for several days without needing a charge. Additionally, I would be interested in seeing various form factors, such as a round design.

Chapter 7: Conclusion - Hopeful Aspirations

There you have it: my wishlist for future Apple products. I’m not sure how many of these ideas will come to fruition, but whatever Apple has planned, I’m excited to see.

Even if none of my suggestions are realized, I truly appreciate the quality of the devices I currently own.

Nonetheless, it’s only natural to indulge in a bit of wishful thinking.
