Finding Balance: Writing During the Trials of Medical School
Written on
Chapter 1: A Journey Begins
Navigating medical school is like being in a tumultuous relationship; it challenges every limit, yet I still manage to write consistently.
Initially, I had no idea how challenging it would be to juggle a demanding career and a passion for writing while pursuing my MBBS degree.
The Start
I began writing during my 12th grade, maintaining a steady routine. However, when I entered medical school, my writing came to a halt for the entire first year. After that year, I resolved to resume writing and established a strict schedule to treat it as a side endeavor.
The Plan
My approach was straightforward: I aimed to apply the 80-20 principle to combat procrastination. This meant dedicating 20% of my time to writing, with the goal that this investment would yield 80% of the outcomes for my articles. While writing, I concentrated solely on my thoughts and the piece itself, ensuring that my academic concerns didn’t distract me.
One major hurdle I encountered was my tendency to obsess over an article once published. This fixation often detracted from my study focus. I faced similar challenges during my time managing a YouTube channel, where I found myself immersed in content creation at the expense of my studies.
The Solution
Mindset: Cultivating a resilient mindset is essential for managing various challenges. Focusing on one task at a time can greatly enhance productivity.
Clear Goals: Establishing precise objectives is crucial for achieving dreams while balancing priorities.
Setting Priorities: Identifying priorities is vital for navigating burnout. I personally prioritize completing my daily academic responsibilities before engaging in other activities, such as writing.
Ignoring Stats: It's important not to fixate on the statistics of your YouTube channel or Medium account. Instead, pursue your passions wholeheartedly, ensuring that you maintain a balance between your studies and your creative outlets to avoid burnout.
Enjoy the Journey…Conclusion
Ultimately, how we respond to our circumstances determines our ability to manage the chaos of life. Establishing a strong mindset can empower us to navigate challenges like depression, burnout, and procrastination.
