In a chilling event on January 14, 1953, Albert Tong, a city gardener in Vancouver, uncovered a disturbing scene while clearing brush in Stanley Park. The Vancouver Police Museum recounts how he stepped on a patch of leaves, which produced an ominous crunch.
Beneath the leaves near Beaver Lake, investigators found two small skeletal remains concealed under a deteriorating fur coat close to Prospect Point. One child rested face down across the lap of the other.
Though the coat was worn and appeared to be of low quality, it indicated the children were dressed in tattered clothing, specifically plaid jackets, corduroy trousers, and leather aviator helmets.
