A Glimpse into My Daily Routine with Chronic Illness
Written on
Morning Rituals
My day begins similarly to many who live with chronic illnesses: by taking my medication. I must wait a bit before having breakfast, so I head to the kitchen to refill my water bottle. After that, I usually take a moment to sit with my phone, checking emails and other messages. Following this, I turn to my daily devotionals and Bible readings. Although I know I should do them in reverse order, it’s something I’m working on improving. After completing my readings, I return to my room to get dressed and follow my morning skincare routine.

Section 1.1 Skincare Simplicity
I shared details about my skincare routine in a previous article. It's quite simple because I prefer not to have a complex regimen. I know that if it’s too intricate or costly, I won’t stick with it. In the morning, I use toner on a cotton pad to remove any residue from the night before, followed by applying some moisturizer.
Section 1.2 Work and Engagement
Once my skincare is done and I’ve added a bit of Aquaphor to my lips, I sit down at my computer to begin my workday. I typically log into Medium first, checking the engagement from the previous night, responding to interactions, and catching up on my reading. The day develops into a steady rhythm of reading and commenting, interspersed with working on my current article for several hours. I don't usually take formal meal breaks but often eat while I work. During this time, I also engage with my Facebook feed, responding to readers in Medium groups and reading new posts shared there.
Chapter 2 Household Chores and Evening Wind Down
By the end of most days, I finish an article and prepare it for publication on Medium. Afterward, I tackle some household chores, which typically include starting at least one load of laundry and another chore. On alternate Mondays, I like to wash my bed sheets while continuing with my routine, so I can switch them to the dryer when I take a break.
The first video titled "A Day In My Life" provides a visual representation of a daily routine that resonates with my experiences.
Afternoon Activities
As the afternoon progresses, I shift my focus from work-related tasks to other responsibilities. Sophie, my beagle, returns inside after her outdoor time, and we often settle in to watch some television. This usually includes catching up on daily news or enjoying reruns of my favorite shows. I still have my laptop with me, continuing to work on tasks from earlier.
Evening Routine
Sophie has her dinner at 6:30 PM, and I’m typically still on my laptop during that time. I sometimes set the computer aside for dinner, only to pick it up again later, while on other occasions, I continue working until I start my nighttime routine.
My evening routine is more involved but not overly complicated. I have an extended skincare regimen, which I detailed in my previous article. At this point, I change into my pajamas and brush my teeth, followed by my nighttime skincare routine. After finishing this, I take my bedtime medications, apply lotion to my hands and arms, and use a nighttime mask to keep my lips hydrated while I sleep. I then read my evening devotionals and settle down with a few chapters from the book that’s currently on my bedside table before turning off the light and snuggling into bed for the night.
The second video, "5AM-9PM DAY IN MY LIFE as a senior in high school," captures the essence of a structured daily routine that parallels my own experiences in managing time and responsibilities.
