Chapter 1: Introduction to iOS 17

iOS 17 is a significant update that has surprised many users since its unveiling at WWDC. While the major features were showcased, several incredible functionalities went unnoticed.

#1. Reviving Live Wallpapers

The previous update, iOS 16, was impressive for its practicality, but it disappointed fans of dynamic wallpapers by removing Live Wallpapers. However, Apple has listened and brought them back with iOS 17. To set a Live Wallpaper, simply take a Live Photo, click Share, select "Use as Wallpaper," and toggle the icon.

How It Functions

Unlike in iOS 15, where you needed to tap and hold to activate the Live Photo, in iOS 17, it plays automatically whenever you wake the display.

#2. Early Reminders

When you create a reminder in iOS 17, you will notice a new feature labeled "Early Reminder." This function allows you to receive notifications ranging from a minute to several months before your scheduled event.

For instance, if you set two events, "Wedding in a Week" and "Wedding today," after updating, you can delete the first and add an early reminder for the latter to keep your schedule tidy. Ideally, having multiple early reminders for significant events would be beneficial, especially for project deadlines.

#3. Recurring Payments with Apple Cash

If you utilize Apple Cash, you can now automate recurring payments. This feature is perfect for regular transactions, such as rent or pocket money for kids.

How to Set It Up

1. Open the contact in iMessage.
2. Click on Cash and swipe up to expand the Apple Cash screen.
3. Select "Recurring Payment" and fill in the details like start date and frequency.

#4. Transaction-Based Automation

iOS 17 introduces a new automation trigger in Shortcuts that activates whenever you use a Wallet Card or Pass.

To use this feature, navigate to Shortcuts > Automation > Transaction, and select the type of transaction you want to trigger.

#5. Shortcuts Widgets on Lock Screen

Finally, Shortcuts widgets are now available on the Lock Screen, allowing you to access your most-used shortcuts immediately upon unlocking your device.

You can add up to four shortcuts below the time for quick access.

#6. Bluetooth Disconnection Triggers

In iOS 17, you can now create automations that activate when a Bluetooth device disconnects, expanding your automation capabilities significantly.

#7. New Shortcut Blocks

The Shortcuts app has received a significant update, including three new blocks: resetting cellular data statistics, toggling cellular plans, and deleting alarms.

#8. Small Shortcuts Widget

In addition to existing Shortcuts widgets, a new small widget featuring two shortcuts has been added, giving users even more customization options.

#9. New Music Widgets

Two large new music widgets are now available, offering personalized recommendations and top charts that you can interact with directly.

#10. Enhanced Alarm UI

The alarm interface has received a makeover, utilizing the Dynamic Island feature on newer iPhones, making it easier to snooze or cancel alarms.
