Empowering Women: Breaking Societal Norms and Embracing Authenticity

Understanding Societal Expectations
As a child, I was often overwhelmed by fear. Reflecting back, it seems almost humorous how much there was to be afraid of. In my journey, I learned valuable lessons about self-care and caring for others, yet I struggled to truly understand how to embrace my own identity.
In my quest for self-awareness, I’ve identified four unofficial societal rules that women are often pressured to conform to, along with my suggestions for breaking free from them.
1. Smile and Be Attractive
There are times when I simply don't want to smile. It's not that I don't find joy in it; rather, I sometimes prefer to keep my happiness private.
As for beauty, it's present in every experience, even during our less glamorous moments. Whether I choose to enhance my appearance or not, my worth remains unchanged.
My advice? Embrace what feels right for you. If you desire to look glamorous, do it! If you identify more with a tomboy style, that's perfectly fine too. Prioritize your comfort over societal expectations.

2. Be Submissive and Compliant
Some people want to dictate your voice and choices. However, it's essential to remember that you have the power to choose when to express yourself and when to remain silent.
I encourage you to find your inner voice. Engaging in self-reflection can open the door to understanding and resolving personal challenges. This might involve seeking therapy or even learning new skills like cartwheeling—whatever it takes to free your inner child.

3. Allow Yourself to Feel
Emotions are often viewed as taboo, which is a misguided notion. We must acknowledge our feelings—everyone, regardless of gender, deserves to experience their emotions fully.
It's vital to cultivate an environment where feeling is accepted and safe. Surround yourself with supportive friends, both human and animal, to learn vulnerability and enhance your emotional intelligence, which in turn can lead to increased happiness.
4. Emphasize Logic Over Emotion
While logic is important, it should not overshadow our emotions. The call to be purely rational disregards our instincts, life experiences, and inner guidance.
Finding a balance between emotion and logic is crucial, and it's a journey I am still navigating. Being present and questioning my reactions has proven to be beneficial in this process.
Embracing My Identity
As a woman, I embrace my individuality and recognize my strength. I no longer fear being visible. My journey is about finding my place in the world, and I encourage everyone, regardless of gender, to embark on their own path of self-discovery. Best of luck on your journey!
