How Daily Silence Transformed My Mindset and Priorities

Chapter 1: The Awakening
About six months ago, I noticed my body was beginning to shut down. I was struggling with sleep, my skin was breaking out, and my motivation had dwindled to an all-time low.
I had taken on too many responsibilities far too quickly. I felt like a walking stress ball, reminiscent of George Costanza. It was time to pay attention to my body’s signals: slow down and release the stressful thoughts that weighed heavily on me.
In response, I began practicing silence. Here are three revelations I had during this time.
Section 1.1: Priorities Come to Light
Reflecting on my upbringing, my parents were always busy with their demanding jobs. Although we were comfortable financially, their stress resonated with me, and I promised myself I wouldn’t follow that path.
"I’ll find a stress-free job," I vowed a decade ago.
However, we often underestimate the challenges of the corporate world until we face them ourselves. College life seems to paint a rosy picture, but once you enter the workforce, the reality shifts from financial concerns to a race against time.
By incorporating even a brief ten minutes of silence into my day, I’ve been able to focus on what truly matters:
- Building solid relationships
- Setting realistic ambitions
- Prioritizing mental resets
While it’s perfectly fine to want to excel at your job—perhaps even earn a six-figure salary and enjoy lavish meals in Miami—sacrificing your well-being for work is not worth it.
Find that balance through silence.
Section 1.2: Distractions Fade Away
After a long day at work, many people transform into couch potatoes, glued to their screens and takeout. Our world is overflowing with distractions, and I find myself less concerned about global issues and more about the competition for our attention spans.
George Orwell once noted:
This issue isn’t new. For instance, the U.S. government’s recent discussions about banning TikTok are less about data security and more about the competition for our attention.
If you can control where you direct your focus, you’ll be ahead of the curve.
If you find yourself among the majority who struggle with distractions, consider these strategies:
- Schedule time for deep work
- Plan your next day the night before
- Invest in noise-canceling headphones
- Choose a book over your phone
- Use black-and-white mode on your phone
- Keep your phone on silent mode consistently
- Challenge yourself physically without causing injury
Many of the world’s most insightful minds minimize their phone usage. The devices themselves aren’t the issue; rather, it’s the habits we build around them.
By reducing interruptions, you can accomplish more. If you wish to assess your distractions, meditation can be a powerful tool.
Chapter 2: Embracing Reflection

This guided meditation focuses on helping you calm your mind and find inner peace through ten minutes of focused silence.
A Ten Minute Guided Meditation to Clear Your Mind - YouTube
This meditation is designed to help clear your thoughts and rejuvenate your mental state, paving the way for clarity and focus.
Through solitude, our minds are liberated to explore new ideas. Once you gain mastery over your attention, you can escape the cycle of working solely for monetary gain.
The societal norm often suggests that supporting a family comes with unavoidable stress. Yet, silence can free you from this cycle.
Naval Ravikant describes meditation as “the art of doing nothing.” While not a quick fix for stress, it’s a valuable skill that can help you embark on a path of self-discovery.
Section 2.1: Embracing Boredom
Ten minutes of daily silence serves as a reminder of my goals and the steps I need to take to reach them. It clears away negativity and heightens my awareness of my body and mind, helping me visualize my ideal future—one where I’m writing, meditating, and journaling.
Start embodying your future self today. If you don’t take action now, how can you expect to do so later in life?
In our fast-paced world, embracing boredom is a superpower.
