Yet, social media feeds are filled with complaints regarding the opioid epidemic while many oppose reasonable measures to curb COVID-19 transmission.

The hypocrisy is palpable—individuals who advocate for stringent measures against HIV transmission may still oppose mask mandates. They might argue that failing to wear a condom while being HIV positive constitutes a crime, yet they refuse to acknowledge that not wearing a mask during a pandemic has similar implications for public health. In 2018, only 15,820 Americans died from AIDS-related illnesses, underlining the severity of the current COVID-19 crisis.
