Chapter 1: Reflections on Apple’s Spring Loaded Event
As I reflect on Apple's recent "Spring Loaded" event, I find myself in a bit of a quandary. Having recently transitioned back to the Pixel 4a from my iPhone 12 mini—more on that later—I’ve been using my Pixelbook Go more than my MacBook Air, and I’ve even stopped wearing my Apple Watch.
This isn’t to say I’ve lost my affection for Apple products; in fact, my admiration for their devices is stronger than ever. However, I’ve started to contemplate which devices I truly want to integrate into my daily life and which ones I can forgo.
Despite my mixed feelings, I tuned in to the event with great anticipation. I wasn’t specifically looking for anything; I’m already content with my iPad mini 5 (check out my thoughts on why it remains my favorite iPad), and I own an M1 MacBook. Unless a foldable iPhone was on the agenda, I didn’t see a reason to switch phones again.
While the newly unveiled iMacs are stunning (do I need a desktop computer?); and the M1 iPad Pro is captivating (I’m curious about how iPadOS will adapt to its enhanced capabilities), there were several anticipated announcements that didn’t materialize.
This discussion revolves around products that had been rumored prior to the event. I’m not evaluating the credibility of those rumors; I'm simply expressing my disappointment over what I expected to see.

Section 1.1: The Missing AirPods 3
I have a deep fondness for my AirPods. Despite having several other headphones at home—most of which outperform the AirPods in certain aspects—I consistently reach for them.
I wasn't desperately in need of an update; my current AirPods are far from obsolete. However, I was genuinely intrigued by the concept images circulating online that suggested a design resembling AirPods Pro without the rubber tips. I struggle to keep AirPods Pro securely in my ears, despite trying various sizes and even third-party foam tips. The rumored design seemed to blend elements from both versions of AirPods (perhaps with some influence from Samsung's Beans).
If those images are accurate, it’s likely that these new AirPods will be released soon. Yet, they didn’t debut yesterday, and while I didn’t need them, I certainly wanted them.
Subsection 1.1.1: Anticipation for Apple Pencil 3
Recently, "leaked" photos of an Apple Pencil 3 surfaced, showcasing the glossy design of the original alongside the flat, magnetic connection of the Apple Pencil 2.
Unfortunately, when Apple showcased the iPad Pro and its accessories, only the Apple Pencil 2 was highlighted. While I’m not complaining—given how exceptional the Apple Pencil 2 is—I was hopeful for enhancements. If it had been released, it likely would have been limited to the new iPad Pro models, which I wasn’t planning on purchasing anyway.
Section 1.2: The Disappointment of Magic Keyboard 2
Apple did introduce a new Magic Keyboard, including one that comes with the iMac featuring Touch ID. However, I anticipated more for the iPad Magic Keyboard 2 than just a white version of the original.
I didn’t see specific rumors regarding its features, but I had hoped for Touch ID integration, similar to the iMac's new keyboard, to simplify access while using the iPad. Additionally, a different material would have been appreciated, as the soft-touch rubber covers tend to become dirty and damaged easily.
Chapter 2: Where’s the iPad Mini 6?
Speaking of the iPad mini, where is the much-anticipated mini 6? There were strong rumors of a redesigned model with a larger screen resembling the iPad Air and Pro. However, that didn’t materialize.
I also hoped for a refreshed version with the same classic design. Although I love my iPad mini 5, I’m disappointed that we didn’t see an upgrade, especially one equipped with the A14 chip. My current iPad mini, released in 2019, is beginning to feel outdated.
While I remain optimistic about future updates, I worry that Apple may not prioritize the mini line, given their history of slow updates.
The Unforeseen Rumors
I encountered a few other rumors about products that could potentially be announced, none of which I expected to see at the event.
For instance, there were whispers of a new MacBook or a new chip (possibly dubbed M1X). Although these updates are inevitable, I didn’t anticipate them this soon. The first M1 MacBooks are still relatively new, and I suspect Apple will hold off on major updates for a while.
Additionally, I heard rumors regarding a basic iPad, but given the recent release of the iPad Air, this seemed unlikely. Similarly, while I’d welcome a more affordable version of AirPods Max, I doubted they would launch so soon after the original release.
Finally, the speculation surrounding Apple Glasses was unexpected, but I would be eager to purchase them as soon as they’re available.

In conclusion, I always look forward to new Apple events, even when I'm not actively using their products. Despite the absence of several anticipated devices at this event, I remain confident that they will eventually make their debut. I'm already excited for the next Apple announcement.
