# Exploring Alternatives to Medium: Blogger, Substack, and Beyond

Chapter 1: The Shift in Medium's Landscape
It all began in early May when changes regarding AI content were anticipated. Initially, I thought AI-generated articles would be made accessible without a paywall. However, most of them remain behind that barrier.
Unexpectedly, several features have disappeared. Notifications are lacking, and my earnings have plummeted, especially on the mobile app. While notifications have resumed, they now arrive significantly delayed, impacting my income. You can refer to my weekly earnings updates for evidence of this decline.
Who's accountable for these changes? Medium has chosen to remain silent, which raises questions—could this be intentional? In the interim, AI-generated content stays behind the paywall. But I won’t dwell on that; instead, I'll concentrate on what I can manage—my own writing.
To safeguard my work, I downloaded everything from Medium. Yet, what lies ahead? Many established authors have decided to remove their content from the platform, but I intend to remain with Medium for as long as it exists.
That said, I am a bit of a control enthusiast; I dislike being at the mercy of algorithms. Yes, I know, in online ventures, there will always be some level of dependency—on Google's algorithm, the internet itself, or even electricity.
This realization hit me hard during the pandemic when certain regions began imposing internet restrictions and rationing electricity. Quite alarming!
So, what’s my plan? I’m diversifying my efforts. I've developed a system that includes a blog, a newsletter, and various platforms like Amazon and YouTube. I’ll continue to quietly build my presence across these avenues.
Of course, I’ll share my journey with you once the time is right. Meanwhile, I’m eager to know: what do you consider the best alternative to Medium? Is it Blogger, perhaps Substack? And what are your reasons? I appreciate your insights!
