Understanding the Real Threat

In my previous discussions, I may have been critical of plant-based foods, but let’s clarify something important: processed foods represent the genuine threat to public health.

Whole foods, whether they come from animal sources or plants, are far superior to any processed options. If you eliminate processed foods from your diet and switch to whole foods—be it plants, animal products, or meats—your body will undoubtedly appreciate the change. I fully endorse anyone transitioning from a diet filled with processed junk to one centered around whole foods. This includes vegetarian or vegan diets.

What Exactly are Whole Foods?

You might wonder, “What qualifies as a whole food?” That’s a valid question and reflects the confusion surrounding current dietary advice. It’s not your fault; the information available has often been misleading.

The definition of a whole food is quite straightforward. If an item’s ingredient list includes just one ingredient, it qualifies as a whole food. For instance, strawberries are simply listed as strawberries.

Of course, common sense is important here. If there are additional ingredients like water or salt, that’s usually acceptable. However, if you encounter unrecognizable chemicals in the ingredient list, it’s best to avoid them. Many of these additives are specifically included to create dependency, showing a blatant disregard for consumer health.

The food industry has normalized this practice, crafting products designed to entice consumers and stimulate cravings, rather than promote well-being. Processed oils, sugars, and various additives make ingredient lists resemble those found in a chemistry lab, rather than in a kitchen.

This entire sector exploits our biological instincts, prioritizing profit over our health, while whole foods at least offer some nutritional benefits. In contrast, these processed items provide nothing but empty calories—essentially, they are toxic in edible form, masked by clever marketing and enticing flavors to ensure generational appeal.

It's staggering how much money is invested in marketing these so-called "foods," but that's a topic for another day. This is indeed a significant public health crisis of our era.

So yes, while I have critiqued plant foods, they pale in comparison to the immense harm inflicted by ultra-processed options. The first step should be to eliminate sodas, chips, breakfast cereals, and other synthetic products from your diet. Only then can we focus on optimizing our intake of whole foods, whether they are plant or animal-based.

One step at a time is crucial. Prioritizing the removal of the real public health enemy is essential for reclaiming our health. Join me in the quest to discover the most sensible diet for human beings.
