Never Give Up: The Key to Consistency and Patience in Achieving Goals
Written on
Chapter 1: Embracing the Journey
Lately, I've been feeling a bit disheartened for various reasons. As many of you know from my "Get to know me!" article, I work as a self-employed Biology tutor for students preparing for university. Recently, it has become increasingly challenging to attract new tutees, and this has made my outlook on this venture seem rather grim.
Initially, I had expected my client base to be much larger than it currently is, which has left me feeling frustrated due to the slower-than-anticipated progress. Additionally, I find myself reflecting on the difficulties of building an audience on Medium and expanding my presence on Instagram, leading me to contemplate the idea of giving up entirely.
I began to spiral into a negative mindset: thoughts like "I'll never create something meaningful," "I'll never develop passive income streams," and "I won't achieve financial independence as quickly as I desire." Taking a moment to reflect, I realize how irrational these thoughts have been.
I haven't dedicated significant time to my "projects" over the last two months, yet here I was, labeling myself a failure and doubting my ability to achieve success!
Many people may not know that overthinking and catastrophizing have been persistent challenges for me. I won't sugarcoat it—it's been incredibly difficult to combat these negative thoughts, and I recognize that it will be an ongoing battle.
Despite consuming a wealth of self-help content, I often find that I do not internalize the lessons learned and rarely put them into action. It's clear that a change is necessary; otherwise, I risk living a life dictated by arbitrary goals, which is not a fulfilling way to exist.
Chapter 2: The Path to Improvement
To improve my situation, I have identified a couple of key strategies. First and foremost, I must remind myself that achieving anything significant demands both consistency and patience. This may sound straightforward, but it's a mindset that many, including myself, struggle to adopt.
We often crave immediate results, shying away from difficult days and challenging circumstances. However, it's precisely those who persevere through adversity who are more likely to achieve success because they refuse to quit.
The first rule to remember is to commit to showing up regularly, consistently, for a set number of days each week over an extended period.
Next, I need to find joy in the process and concentrate on the actions I can control, rather than fixating on the outcomes that are beyond my control. As someone wisely stated, I want to "execute ruthlessly while remaining patient with the results."
While analyzing results and planning future steps is vital for working efficiently, the current challenge isn't about evaluating outcomes but rather the absence of results to evaluate!
Thus, the second rule is to prioritize the necessary work and enjoy the journey.
Chapter 3: The Power of Persistence
By adhering to these two principles, I am confident that the results will eventually manifest, and the journey toward my goals will be both enjoyable and memorable.
I believe many of us have faced moments of wanting to give up while pursuing meaningful objectives. How did you manage to stay the course, and what was the outcome?
