Merely having a clever narrative isn't sufficient; if you neglect your audience's needs, they'll quickly lose interest. Here are some strategies to elevate your presentation. I personally refer to this approach as the Holy Trinity of Writing.
- Title and Subtitle: Is your title captivating without resorting to clickbait tactics? Consider what makes your piece worth reading amidst a sea of other articles.
- Visuals: An impactful image, properly attributed, can significantly draw readers in. The mood and colors of an image play a vital role in attracting attention. While some readers might shy away from jarring visuals, others may be drawn in by calming hues.
- Formatting: This often-overlooked aspect is essential for crafting an appealing article. For more insights on formatting, see below.
Before hitting publish, take a moment to consider your audience's experience. If I suggest a formatting change, it's intended to be constructive—please don't take it to heart.

Here are some common suggestions I frequently share:
- “Consider adding a subtitle. Currently, your subtitle consists of the first few lines of your article, which doesn’t look appealing. Once you have a well-formatted subtitle, you can easily change it in edit mode.”
- “Please improve your formatting. Keep in mind that many readers are on mobile devices, and large blocks of text can be intimidating. Aim for 4-5 lines per paragraph.”
- “Break up your text for better readability. You can emphasize a point by placing a single sentence between two paragraphs or creating subtitles for major sections.”
Give your readers a visual break. Include a relevant quote within your narrative, using the single quote format tool for emphasis. Quotes can offer fresh perspectives and provide a resting point for the eyes.
Section 1.2: Engaging Your Audience with Multimedia
Utilizing videos can enhance reader engagement. Embed a pertinent YouTube video that complements your content. Position it after the midway point of your article to keep your audience engaged.

A concise introduction draws readers in, and providing a brief takeaway at the end reinforces your points. Outline what you're going to convey, deliver it, and then summarize.
One final tip to engage your readers: add a kicker to your piece. If you're editing on Medium, create a space at the start of your main title, then type a relevant topic and format it as a subtitle. This will enhance your article's appeal.
