Chapter 1: Transforming Transport Infrastructure
Recent updates from Sharjah have brought exciting news regarding the final stage of the semi-rigid track development. This crucial phase is currently underway at the project’s testing and certification hub. An end station is being established, which will enable the transit vehicles to operate from ground level.
The design features a dual-beam suspended track that will connect the passenger platform with the intersection part of the anchor structure, both of which are at different elevations. This site will serve multiple functions, including the hanging, charging, inspection, and maintenance of uPods. All components of the design comply with the specified strength and reliability standards. Notably, the structure is designed to endure several million load cycles with a projected lifespan of 50 years under a specified traffic frequency. Additionally, the streamlined construction process significantly lowers both construction and maintenance costs for the overall track system.
All structural elements are designed and manufactured in accordance with modern safety regulations, thereby minimizing the likelihood of operational failures. Furthermore, the track incorporates a noise-dampening material, enhancing safety and comfort for travelers. These attributes make the site suitable for urban, suburban, and parkland transit systems.
It is essential to highlight that the robust rail bridge is engineered to support uPods weighing over 30 tons. This allows for 25-seater uBuses, which can be organized into trains accommodating up to 75 passengers, as well as fifth-generation suspended uPods with a capacity of up to 30.5 tons, to achieve higher speeds.
The design of the pre-stressed rails significantly reduces material usage and lowers the costs associated with vehicle crossings. The construction of uST Transport Buildings eliminates the need for earth embankments, excavations, bridges, multi-level intersections, and ducts.
These uST Transport and Foundation Buildings are capable of transporting an impressive volume of up to 50,000 passengers per hour while maintaining minimal operating costs, thanks to rapid transit times. This feature, along with the automation of the transportation process, energy efficiency, and a minimal maintenance team, reduces the payback period for the facility.
