Crafting Vision Boards: A Playful Approach to Global Crisis
Written on
The world seems to be on the brink of disaster.
Regardless of whether this is the ultimate end foretold by various religious and mythological narratives, it certainly feels as though we are teetering on the edge of a cliff.
While diseases like smallpox and the Spanish flu have been eradicated, COVID-19 has ushered in a new era of uncertainty.
History has shown us the rise of fascism and authoritarianism, yet here we find ourselves again, with certain leaders in the American Republican party admiring Hungary's authoritarian approach, seemingly without concern for the ominous signals surrounding us.
Texas is reviving an antiquated American strategy of turning citizens against one another for financial gain, reminiscent of the Wild West tales.
And then we have climate change. What can we say about a world where the term “unprecedented” has become so common?
We face floods, hurricanes, vigilante justice in Texas, armed groups in Portland, and a slew of corrupt politicians from both major parties.
If this were the plot of a movie, someone would likely advise dialing down the drama. After all, how can we expect our protagonist to survive, let alone return us to the blissful ignorance of the 80s filled with shopping and television?
It's daunting to implement the necessary changes to ensure everyone has enough to eat and a place to live, let alone to make our planet sustainable for future generations.
Engaging in daily debates about a woman's right to choose is exhausting. I recently found myself in a troubling discussion with someone who was thrilled that women were facing consequences due to… masks and Afghanistan.
I can’t continue having these dispiriting exchanges. They weigh heavily on my heart.
One might ponder if there’s a collective lesson to be gleaned from the ongoing and looming disasters—perhaps a call for a more sustainable lifestyle or truly accessible healthcare, or some vague notion of community.
But wisdom is often overlooked in a consumer-driven society focused on immediate gratification.
> “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.” > ~Albert Einstein
Indeed, Einstein, I grasp the essence. Here’s my take:
We all desire a better world. Yet, our approach is fundamentally flawed. We’re in combat mode, resisting and opposing.
So negative of us.
# The Vision Board
Let me introduce the Vision Board, also known as a Dream Board.
A Vision Board employs the Law of Attraction and serves as an enjoyable alternative to traditional activism and education.
This concept suggests that by concentrating on our desires, we can shape our reality and bypass the harsh truths of our current existence. Perhaps even exceeding our expectations.
In essence, with a Dream Board, we can turn our aspirations into reality.
The core idea is this: Change arises from attracting positivity, not from fighting against negativity.
The more we dwell on what we don’t want, the more we inadvertently invite it into our lives. For instance, chanting “No Justice, No Peace” may lead to achieving neither. Instead, we should focus on our aspirations and allow the universe to handle the rest. It's simpler than we imagine when we apply the principles of physics.
# The Universe as the Catalyst for Change
The Law of Attraction posits that the universe is a benevolent entity, akin to Santa Claus, waiting for us to request a better world before taking action.
This method could be as effective for real transformation as “thoughts and prayers” are for some after tragic events, but it’s accessible to all, not just a privileged few who have learned to delegate the challenging work of change to unseen forces.
If only Flint, MI, had focused on visualizing images of clean, clear water instead of reaching out to their representatives, they might not still be grappling with their crisis.
Navigating a world where mask mandates vary by location and guidelines shift daily is challenging.
How can anyone find clarity amid such modern confusion, pain, and misinformation? Why struggle for solutions when visualization can provide them?
Let’s engage in activism through a more relaxed approach.
Here’s how:
Start by purchasing a stack of magazines you probably won’t read, along with various sizes and colors of sturdy tagboard.
Next, identify something distressing in the world. For example, think about that angry, conspiracy-driven protester who disrupted a school board meeting.
Instead of reacting with anger, cut out images of people enjoying each other’s company, shaking hands, and smiling. What’s absent in real school boards can now be realized on your dedicated School Vision Board.
Not ready to tackle such a significant issue right away? Create a School Lunch Board, showcasing images of healthy meals to replace the less nutritious options currently served to students.
While the Supreme Court may have lifted the eviction moratorium, you can revive it through a Compassionate Housing Board, featuring families proudly standing in front of their new homes.
Want to see cross-party camaraderie? Don’t stress about making it a reality; that’s unrealistic. Instead, find pictures of individuals in Trump t-shirts and juxtapose them with someone holding a yoga mat and a latte while getting into their Prius adorned with an Equality bumper sticker. The more we blend these images on our Unity Tagboard, the closer we get to harmony.
Many aren’t yet ready to cut down on meat for environmental reasons, so establish a Vegetarian Board. Collect images of fresh vegetables to craft a beautiful spread while still savoring your burger. Six of one.
This is the simplest and most effective way to save the planet while enjoying your favorite bagel with light cream cheese, served with disposable utensils and napkins.
As you’re busy transforming the world, don’t forget to create personal goal boards! For instance, an Exercise Board filled with images of people exercising can lead to unexpected results.
Go ahead and stick to your usual routines, as the Law of Attraction suggests.
After a productive session, take a moment to relax in your air-conditioned seat at an open-air venue, even when the heat is unbearable.
Here are a few more ideas to ignite your creativity, and then off you go, fellow world-changer!
> Post pictures of serene rivers on your Gentle Rivers Board to combat floods. > Share images of harmonious homes and trees on your Coexist Board to prevent wildfires. > Display visuals of pristine oceans and joyful dolphins on your Clean Ocean Board to mitigate hurricanes.
# In Conclusion
Tidy up your space and watch as the world begins to improve almost magically. But it’s not magic; it’s the Law of Attraction at work.
We often overlook this straightforward technique, which allows us to harness the power of our imagination and deepest desires for just a few minutes each day, then continue with our lives as usual.
Embrace the mantra of the Law of Attraction: Do what you’ve always done while envisioning that the polluted air around you is fresh and clean as you complete your Clean Air Board.
